What gets taught
Character work — building a person from a script rather than putting on a voice. Improvisation, which is where quick thinking and the confidence to be wrong in front of people get built. Stage presence and vocal projection, meaning how to hold an audience's attention deliberately rather than by accident. And text: reading a script for what is underneath it, not just what is on the line.
Those skills leave the room. Students who have done a couple of years of drama handle school presentations, interviews and viva-style exams noticeably better than they otherwise would, which is a slightly unromantic argument for a drama class but a true one.
Exams, for those who want them
Graded drama examinations are available and entirely optional. Our academy-wide pass rate is 100%, which reflects a policy of not entering a student until they are genuinely ready rather than any particular magic.
Plenty of students never sit one and get exactly as much out of the class.
After-school drama clubs in Solihull primaries
Younger children can reach drama a different way. We take clubs into four primary schools around the borough, split by key stage, so a child finishes lessons and walks to the club rather than being driven somewhere at half past three. For a lot of families that is the difference between doing this and not.

Our studio drama class has a higher starting age than most of the timetable because of the text work involved — the exact range is shown against it above. Younger children can start in our KS1 and KS2 after-school clubs.Will drama help a shy child?
